This blog aims to bring global issues to light in an understandable manner. We plan to keep younger generations informed about current events and broaden their horizons concerning cultural, environmental, political and social affairs world-wide. We believe it is important for people of all ages to be informed about what’s going on around the world. edu4youth.blogspot.com is dedicated to providing accessible information for younger generations. Remember, even though our blog is directed towards youth, learning is for people of every age!
Hey, guys! My name is Kayla Blevins. I was born and raised in Winston-Salem, N.C., and am a recent graduate of Mount Tabor High School. I’m currently a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I am planning to study journalism and public relations. I enjoy writing for publications and I was previously an editor for my high school newspaper. When I am not researching or writing, I enjoy being outdoors as a camp counselor during the summer, watching “Pretty Little Liars” on Tuesday nights, and staying active in my church community. I’m taking on blogging as an exciting, new challenge for me, and I hope to help kids learn in a fun and exciting way!
My name is Graham McAlister and I am originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I recently graduated from West Forsyth High School and have temporarily relocated to Chapel Hill for the duration of my undergraduate career (hopefully). While at UNC I want to study business and economics. I’ve spent the last few years dabbling in different forms of writing from technical science lab write-ups to being a weekly editorialist for a local newspaper with about 8,000 readers. I also recently got hired to write for the State and National Desk at the Daily Tar Heel, one of the only daily college newspapers in the country. Aside from writing, I enjoy exercising, being outdoors and watching international soccer.
Hi! My name is Mallory Sanborn. I’m originally from Buffalo, New York, but my family has lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina for the past 7 years. Currently I am a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill, and I love it! Being at a school this big has opened my eyes and made me aware that there is a lot going on beyond what is on the news. Current events are very important and should be accessible to everyone, which is why I am so excited to share them with the readers through edu4youth.blogspot.com. In high school I was involved with several organizations such as yearbook, student government, key club, recycling club, Operation Engage, as well as 3 varsity sport teams. Being so involved in high school has made me as a pretty well rounded person. I also like to consider myself very open-minded which makes me confident that our blog will remain unbiased and a reliable source for information that will broaden your horizons.
Hey guys! My name is Jaclyn McCarthy and I am a freshman Tar Heel from Durham, North Carolina. During my high school career, I spent three years as a writer and editor for my school’s award-winning newspaper. In 2011, Riverside High School’s “The Pirates’ Hook” received one of the states highest honors in journalism, the Tar Heel Award. Though my last seven years have been spent in North Carolina, I’ve lived in four different states across the east coast. Whether in a small fishing town in New England, a large city in the south, a small farm town in Pennsylvania, or even our nation’s capital, I’ve experienced living in vastly different communities. From my fairly nomadic life, I’ve come to love exploring different cultures and learning about the world.
Hey, I’m Becky Scheible! I’ve lived in Chapel Hill, NC all my life, and I get to spend more time here as a student at UNC. I have been interested in writing for several years, and as a result, I have been able to gain a good amount of experience. I reported for my high school newspaper for two years; during the second year, I worked as an editor and therefore oversaw other reporters. Aside from writing, I enjoy long walks on the beach, watching movies (Despicable Me, anyone?), crafting and spending time outdoors. I believe that in writing to youth, we can educate our younger generation and inform them of important issues.
