Why and how will we cite our sources?

Citing sources in our blog is extremely important. Obviously, we don’t know everything and can’t take credit for all of the ideas we find. Plagiarism is illegal and, without citing, almost unavoidable. By citing the ideas and information we find, our arguments become more reliable because they stem from multiple other ideas. This not only heightens the credibility of our research and articles, but also provides more resources for interested readers.

We will be using MLA format on our blog. Having used this style before, we are all most comfortable with it. MLA is the standard for citing works of art which we will be blogging about later in the semester. In addition, MLA format is easier for the reader to understand and find the source. The following will show you some of the information we will include in our citations:

  • Editor or author of the site.
  • Name of site (in italics)
  • Version number
  • Name of organization affiliated with the site (sponsor or publisher)
  • Date of resource publication
  • Medium of publication
  • Date of access
  • URL (optional)

Example:

Lab conditions were not optimal as temperature, humidity, and airflow were not monitored and many containers were not properly labeled (“Surprising FDA audit report of Celltex a blow to dubious stem cell clinics”).
